Morocco travel is easiest when it is planned by people who live here. Morocco’s Travel is a local Morocco travel agency based in Marrakech, and for over a decade our team has organised trips across the country, from the medinas of Fes and Marrakech to the Atlas Mountains, the Atlantic coast and the dunes of the Sahara.

We know the roads, the riads and the desert camps first-hand, so we can tell you honestly how long a drive takes, which route suits your dates and where a detour is worth it. You deal directly with the team that runs your trip, before you travel and while you are on the road.

Is Morocco safe to visit?

Yes. Morocco is a popular, welcoming destination for couples, families and solo travellers. Take the usual precautions in busy medinas, dress modestly in rural areas, agree taxi fares before you set off and travel with a licensed driver or guide for long routes.

When is the best time to visit Morocco?

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best seasons to travel to Morocco, with warm days in the cities and comfortable temperatures in the Sahara. Summer is very hot inland but pleasant on the coast and in the mountains, while winter brings sunny days and cold desert nights.

When to visit Morocco

What our travellers say

★★★★★
My husband and I had a fantastic week in Morocco with Saiid (our driver/guide). We had a great time learning about the people, culture, and cuisine of the country. By visiting the country's major cities, we immersed ourselves in Moroccan culture. The accommodations in each city were excellent, particularly in the Dades Valley and Sahara Desert, which had breathtaking views and fantastic camel trekking.

Based on the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor, we booked a seven-day trip from Marrakesh to Tangier. We paid the deposit by credit card and received a detailed itinerary from Morocco's Travel. Based on all of their reviews, we went with our gut instinct. Well! What an incredible journey! Ali, our incredible driver and guide, was with us the entire journey! I stayed in THE MOST AMAZING riads. Every step of the way was taken care of. I cannot recommend Morocco's Travel and Ali highly enough. You will not be disappointed!!!

We booked the tour by email, and Ali was very helpful in providing us with all of the necessary information. The tour was fantastic, and we especially enjoyed the dinner in the nomad camp, which was followed by live music. The desert has its own atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Why travel to Morocco

Few countries pack so much variety into a single trip. In one week you can wander the souks of Marrakech, cross the High Atlas by the Tizi n'Tichka pass, sleep in a Berber camp in the Sahara and walk the ancient lanes of Fes. Flights from most European cities take three to four hours, and the country is easy to explore by road with a driver who knows it well.

  • Imperial cities: Marrakech, Fes, Meknes and Rabat, with palaces, madrasas and lively medinas.
  • Mountains and valleys: Berber villages in the High Atlas, the Dades Valley and the Todra Gorge.
  • The Sahara: camel rides, sunset over the dunes and a night under the stars.
  • Coast and food: Atlantic towns such as Essaouira, fresh seafood, tagines and mint tea everywhere you go.

Where to go in Morocco

Marrakech and the High Atlas

Most visitors start in Marrakech, the gateway to the south. Spend a day or two in the medina and the Jemaa el-Fna square, then take a day trip to the Ourika Valley, Imlil or the Agafay Desert. Our Marrakech tours cover the best excursions from the city.

Fes, Chefchaouen and the north

Fes has one of the largest car-free medinas in the world and is the best base for the north. From here, the blue town of Chefchaouen is about four hours away by road, and Tangier links Morocco to southern Spain by ferry. Browse our Fes tours for day trips and multi-day routes.

The Sahara Desert

The dunes of Erg Chebbi near Merzouga rise up to around 150 metres and are the highlight of most trips. Merzouga is roughly 560 km (9–10 hours' drive) from Marrakech and about 470 km (7–8 hours) from Fes, so we break the journey with overnight stops in the Dades Valley or the Todra Gorge. A 3-day desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga is the shortest comfortable option; all routes are on our Morocco desert tours page.

The Atlantic coast

Casablanca, Essaouira and Agadir offer sea air, beaches and a slower pace, ideal at the start or end of a trip. Many travellers fly into Casablanca or Agadir and drive towards the desert from there.

Morocco travel FAQs

How many days do you need in Morocco?

Seven to ten days lets you combine Marrakech, the Sahara and Fes without rushing. With three or four days, focus on Marrakech and a short desert trip; with two weeks or more, you can add the north, Chefchaouen and the coast.

How much does a Morocco holiday cost?

The price depends on the number of travellers, the length of the trip, the level of accommodation and the season. Each tour page shows live prices and online booking, and we are happy to send a free quote for a private or tailor-made trip.

Can I visit the Sahara on a short trip?

Yes. From Marrakech or Fes, a three-day tour reaches Merzouga with one night in a desert camp. Four days or more makes the drive more relaxed and adds time in the gorges and valleys.

Is a private driver better than self-drive?

Driving yourself is possible, but a driver handles mountain roads, navigation and parking in busy cities, and shares local knowledge along the way. It is the most popular choice for desert routes.

What should I pack for a trip to Morocco?

Light, modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees, comfortable walking shoes, sun protection and a scarf for dust and sun in the desert. From November to March, bring warm layers: desert nights can drop close to freezing.
